Fight Ends in Fatal Stabbing

A man was killed early Saturday after crashing into a pole following a stabbing fight just two blocks from his Northwest Side home. A second man was also stabbed and remained in surgery Saturday morning. Hugo Gonzalez, 22, of the 2800 block of North Rockwell Street, was stabbed at 2819 N. Talman Ave., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Gonzalez was found dead at the scene at 1:55 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. Gonzales was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his car after crashing into a pole at 2632 W. Diversey Ave. as he attempted to drive himself to the hospital, Shakespeare District police said. He suffered two stab wounds to his abdomen and was initially taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. Gonzales was pronounced dead at 2:31 a.m., according to the the medical examiner's office. A 26-year-old man was also stabbed. That man was found with one stab wound to the back. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and remained in surgery Saturday morning , police said. Police initially responded to a battery in progress in the 2800 block of North Rockwell Street where they found a witness who told officers his brother had been stabbed, police said. The witness told police he looked out of the window at his home and saw unknown offenders fist fighting just south from his home on the sidewalk, police said. Police are looking for four Hispanic men who may have been involved in the stabbing. Detectives have been unable to get a full description of the offenders from the second victim, who remained hospitalized. No one was in custody for the stabbings at 10 a.m. Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
