Omaha, NE - A mother's heart is breaking as she takes her son off life support and says good-bye. Easing some of her pain though, the arrest of the man accused of shooting her son, Earl Wallace. Action 3 News was there as Pamela Wallace got the news. "YES!" she shouted into a cell phone while talking to police. It's a small bit of relief for a mother deep in despair. Shaking her head and holding back tears she says, "Thank God. Just thank God thank God." With her brain dead son in a hospital bed upstairs at Creighton University Medical Center, Pamela Wallace clutches a picture of Earl taken 25 years ago. The grieving mother wishes it was yesterday. "He's not gonna hold me no more. I'm not gonna hear his voice any more. I think about what I'm going to miss and how much I love him and wish I could change things, but I cant." Monday night, someone shot Earl Wallace and his cousin, Carla Harris at 14th and Spencer. The bullet hit Earl in the head. The family will donate his organs. Pamela admits her son had been involved in gangs, but tried to get out when his twins were born a year ago. "I'm not saying he was an angel, but he had a heart of gold, heart of gold." This mother wants gang members to put down their guns and instead hold hands with the community. "We got to start helping each other, got to care for each other and stop being afraid to step forward for whatever reason ." She knows it's too late for her son, but hopes her message can save another mother's child. Police arrested Darrell Granderson Monday night. He's 18 and charged with several counts.. Those charges could change to murder.
